Ilvaite with Quartz Huanggangliang Iron Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China 127.0 x 100.0 x 63.0 mm This bizarre-looking specimen consists of pale-green fibrous Hedenbergite coating a large dark Ilvaite crystal measuring 90 x 34 x 7 mm. The Ilvaite’s flat termination is completely covered with slightly sceptered milky Quartz crystals oriented parallel to the Ilvaite’s c-axis. A large, 75 x 15 mm, sceptered Quartz with a glassy cap is intergrown with a doubly-terminated Quartz, and these are accompanied by numerous other smaller sceptered Quartz. (Author: GneissWare)
